A state park is getting an upgrade to its infrastructure, including work on a failing seawall that was damaged during Superstorm Sandy.
Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and state Parks Commissioner Rose Harvey toured Roberto Clemente State Park on Friday after Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the plan to replace the seawall.
The state will use up to $46.5 million to improve the 25-acre park. The money will go to a stronger bulkhead in order to withstand future storms.
Commissioner Harvey says that even though the park suffered damage, it protected what was behind it. This includes the River Towers and its 5,000 residents.
The new design of the park will incorporate the beauty of the Bronx waterfront.
The construction is expected to start this winter.
