Rockland County is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases as it launches a new tool to track the disease.
While the pandemic has slowed, case numbers in Rockland County show that it's far from over - with the percentage of positive cases on a gradual rise since the end of August.
Numbers from this past Friday through Monday show 2.5% of tests in Rockland came back positive. The next highest was 1.9% in Orange County. The lowest was in Dutchess County at .6%
County Executive Ed Day tells News 12 the slight increase is from a number of factors like the recent holiday weekend and school resuming.
“We’re getting a lot of reports from students in school who have tested positive, they’re in school but it gets counted here. Which is why I'm proud of our new dashboard," he says.
Rockland County updated its active tracking map this week, breaking down from ZIP code to ZIP code the active number of cases.
“There’s no magic wand to this. We will keep plugging away to slow the spread," says Day.
