Government leaders in Rockland County are demanding their fair share of Homeland Security funds.

Many leaders believe that the Tappan Zee Bridge, the Palisades Center in West Nyack and the Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant could all be targets of terrorism. While the state received more than $220 million in Homeland Security funding, Rockland didn?t see any of it. Two million dollars went to Westchester County just across the river.

One leader pointed out it is better to seek funding from the federal government than impose the burden on local taxpayers. The group plans to schedule a session with the county?s congressional delegation shortly. Although the government has already allocated Homeland Security money for the year, county leaders are hoping there will be an exception made for Rockland.
