Rockland County legislators to vote on 2015 budget
The Rockland County Legislature will be voting on the 2015 budget later this week.
A compromise is in the works that might restore many of the cuts proposed by County Executive Ed Day.
The 2015 budget proposed by Day calls for spending $772 million on county services.
The average taxpayer would see a $20 increase, but less than the state's 2 percent cap.
That meant cuts in the county's workforce, unless a way could be found to reduce the county deficit reduction commitment. County Board Chair Alden Wolfe says a possible compromise in the works could do that.
Day's proposed spending plan would have cut 111 county jobs to save $6.8 million next year.
Nothing is certain until the full county board votes later this week.
The legislature's budget committee is set to vote on the budget Tuesday night, with the full legislature voting on Thursday.
