Rockland executive to seek state Sen. Morahan's seat
With ailing Republican state Sen. Thomas Morahan announcing he won't run for re-election, some local politicians, including the Rockland County executive, have begun eyeing the 38th district.
"I am going to seek the endorsement of the party," says County Executive Scott Vanderhoef (R-Rockland).
Republican County Legislator Ed Day is also vying for Morahan's seat. Both Day and Vanderhoef say they want to keep the district in GOP hands.
Clarkstown Town Clerk David Carlucci is hoping to get the Democratic nomination. The 29-year-old says he'll focus on tax reform, job creation and going green.
The Democrats will officially nominate their candidate June 3. The Republicans will announce their candidate June 7.
