Hurricane season has already started and first responders in Rockland met in Pomona Thursday to make sure they are ready.
Firefighters, police officers, Emergency Medical Service members and Department of Public Works employees gathered at the fire training center. For first responders, the work starts long before disaster strikes. If another hurricane or tropical storm moves up the coast, national weather service forecasters say flooding should be the first concern in Rockland. And because last year's hurricane season was so devastating, this training session is demanding more attention. Panelists talked about everything from preventing flooding by clearing creeks and streams, to encouraging people to maintain a three-day supply of necessities.
