Officers ran active shooter drills today at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center.
Rockland's REACT team and hospital staff are working to ensure they are ready in case an armed gunman ever threatens the hospital, what would be a "code silver."
The exercises were practiced in a recently renovated section of the hospital that is currently not in use so as to not disturb patients.
Security experts say the exercises are growing more critical as statistics for the rate of gun violence in hospitals are on the rise.
The three hours of crisis simulation help give peace of mind to those who save lives at the hospital and to those with the REACT team.
News 12 is told that all of the training learned at Good Samaritan will be used as a format for other incidents at other medical centers and hospitals around Rockland County.
