YONKERS - The Rotary Club of Yonkers-East Yonkers held a fundraiser on Saturday to help build a school playground.

The event, held at the Empire City Casino, aimed to raise money to build a playground at Yonkers School 9.

While the club already secured a grant through a national nonprofit that helps create playgrounds through community participation, the hope was that Saturday's event would help raise the remaining money needed to finish the project.

The fundraiser featured an auction of rock and roll memorabilia and stand-up comedy, including a performance by Valhalla High School graduate Kevin Meaney.

The rotary club hopes to have the playground set up by the start of school in September.
