Runaway horse captured in Washingtonville
A horse got loose in Washingtonville yesterday after throwing off its rider and galloping for more than a mile into town.
Neighbors called police at around 10:30 a.m. after the horse was spotted running along Capitol Drive from Bond Street Farms in Blooming Grove.
Police say the horse was galloping at around 25 mph when they caught up with it.
"I've chased bears, cows and deer and other animals," says Washingtonville Police Chief Stephen Bogert. "This is the first time in 20 years I've chased down a horse."
Police located the owner of the horse, who came down and rode the horse away.
The owner hasn't been ticketed because the horse escaped accidentally.
