Rye community mourns 10-year-old killed in traffic accident
Members of the Rye community said goodbye Saturday to a little boy who tragically lost his life in a traffic accident.
A sea of mourners became a sea of umbrellas as hundreds of people emerged from the Church of the Resurrection in the pouring rain. The weather matched the somber mood, which reflected a life cut short. Ten-year-old Jarrid Amico was hit by a van as he was riding his bicycle on Midland Avenue Monday. A memorial filled with flowers and balloons was placed near the accident scene.
Many in the neighborhood, including the Amico family, say drivers speed down that portion of Midland Avenue even though there is a posted speed limit of 20 mph. Jim Amico told News 12 Westchester the city of Rye must do something to make it safer. But for now, the grief-stricken father must bury his little boy.
