Rye Playland opened its doors for the season Saturday for kids and kids at heart.
Children and parents descended on one of Westchester?s most popular family destinations. This year, however, visitors will notice some changes to the park to make it safer. In August of 2005, 7-year-old Jon-Kely Cassara lost his life on Ye Old Mill ride. Since then the park was ordered to make several safety changes.
Attendants have video monitors to watch kids on the rides. Also, warning signs for certain rides have been posted. Rye Playland is currently only open on the weekends. After Memorial Day the park will operate seven days a week.
