NYACK - New York's senior senator is calling on the U.S. government to offer more help in the search for hundreds of missing girls in Nigeria.

Nearly three weeks have passed since a group of Islamic extremists stormed a school in Northeastern Nigeria and abducted the students.  It is believed that 276 girls remain captive.

Extremist group Boko Haram claimed responsibility for the abduction of the school children last week.

At a press conference on Sunday, state Sen. Chuck Schumer said the U.S. should offer its own reward for information leading to the rescue of the girls.

"Imagine taking the flower of your nation, and trying to destroy it," he said.

A prayer rally was held at Nyack Memorial Park on Sunday for the kidnapped girls. During the rally, attendees read the names of the kidnapped girls aloud. Similar events were held across the nation.
