A set of faulty fire hydrants is creating a fire hazard in one Orange County town. The hydrants, located along Franklin Street in Fort Montgomery, do not contain any water. The original plan was to install the hydrants then get water from the nearby town of Highlands, but that water source evaporated. The village of Highland Falls was also ready to help out, but it realized it didn't have enough water leaving the hydrants tapped out for two years. Highlands Councilman Chris Byrnes is applying for a $50,000 grant to drill wells on village or town property. For now, Byrnes assures the residents of Franklin Street that the local fire department is one of the best around and brings its own water during emergencies.
