Snowstorm snarls planes, trains and buses
The snowstorm made getting around the region extremely challenging Friday, even for those using public transportation.
It was a morning of long waits and disappointments at the Westchester County Airport. About one-third of all flights were canceled because of snow and ice on the runways. In the afternoon, snow plows cleared up the runways, leaving most flights delayed but still able to arrive and depart.Stewart International Airport did not experience any delays, but recommended that travelers check with their carriers before leaving for the airport.
Bee-Line buses also did not have an easy time maneuvering around the county. Riders had to deal with major delays in the morning. By afternoon, the delays were reduced to around 30 minutes.
Crews were working to clear up Metro-North stations for commuters. The trains did not suffer many delays, however, the snow and ice on platforms made even getting to the trains a little treacherous.
