New York's budget plan is due by April 1, but many lawmakers are worried that they will not be ready for the current deadline because of inaction in Albany and a governor mired in scandal.

Assemblyman Greg Ball was in White Plains Friday calling for an audit of the MTA, but commented that the rumors surrounding Gov. Paterson are not helping budget discussions. Ball says, "It really would have been within the best interest of the governor, personally, to step down."

Assemblyman Robert Castelli calls Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch the administration's point man on the budget, and says his history of working with governmental bailouts is helping keep things going. "The budget process seems to be moving along," Castelli says. "But it seems to be moving along without the governor."
