SOUTH SALEM - A South Salem couple has been displaced after a fast-moving fire destroyed their house late last night.

The fire broke out at around 9 p.m. Saturday night, with more than 100 firefighters battling the flames in freezing temperatures on Kitchawan Road.

The two homeowners and their dog narrowly escaped the fire without injury. Firefighters say they're currently staying with their son in Connecticut.

A cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the homeowners say they saw a glow from a heating unit under their kitchen counter before the fire started.
