YONKERS - The St. Patrick's Day Parade kicked off today in Yonkers.

Thousands of people turned out to watch the annual event that featured marching bands and step teams on MacLean Avenue

Officials say what makes the St. Patrick's Day Parade so special is the high number of Irish-Americans living in the area.

"This section of Yonkers has probably one of the heaviest concentrations of Irish-Americans in probably in the country," said Mayor Mike Spano. "You take here, and then further into the Woodlawn section of the Bronx, so it's natural for it to be here."
