Police: Man arrested after standoff with Tinton Falls police had outstanding warrants
A man who barricaded himself inside a Tinton Falls home for several hours had an outstanding warrant against him for aggravated assault and possession of a weapon, according to the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The standoff lasted several hours at the home in the Fox Chase community in Tinton Falls before police finally found Ryan Russell hiding in the attic.
The prosecutor’s office says that Tinton Falls officers were called to the home around 8:15 a.m. for reports of loud banging noises coming from the home. A resident inside the home told the officers that there were no issues and that everyone was safe, according to authorities.
The prosecutor says that the officers left the home, but then became suspicious and decided to check the police database. The prosecutor says that the officers determined someone was inside the home that had warrants against them.
When the officers went back to the home to check to see if that person was inside, they heard Russell in the garage. The home was evacuated as a precaution and the area was put into lockdown.
After several hours Russell was found inside the home’s attic. He had been staying at the home at the time of the incident.
The warrant against Russell was from an October 2016 incident, according to police. He is expected to also face charges for Tuesday’s standoff.
