State police beef up patrols in Orange County for Thanksgiving getaway
Thanksgiving is the busiest travel day of the year and because of that, state police in Orange County are taking extra safety precautions.
According to national surveys, 85 percent of travelers are going by car this weekend. Also, Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year so even more people will be on the highways. State police initiated a ?click it or ticket? on Monday, which will run through December to ensure drivers are buckled up.
Police will also be conducting checkpoints, which they hope will make drivers who drink think twice when getting behind the wheel. Police officials say during this week last year they issued more than 3,000 driving citations.
