Officials say a car crash involving a passenger car and a patrol car in Chester may have been the result of one driver falling asleep following an overnight shift.

The accident involving a Chester patrol car and another car happened around 7:30 a.m. on Friday on Kings Highway near Knapps View Park.

Both people suffered minor injuries. The officer was transported to Garnet Health Medical Center in another patrol car, while the other driver was taken from the scene by a family member. News 12 was told the other driver would seek medical evaluation Friday.

State police say a preliminary investigation shows that the other driver fell asleep on his way home from working an overnight shift. He then sideswiped the oncoming patrol vehicle before colliding with a utility pole.

Orange and Rockland Utilities will be in the area to replace the pole.
