A Stony Point couple is thanking a complete stranger after he alerted them a fire had broken out in their home and saved their lives.
The blaze started in the garage of Patrick Driscoll and fiancée Margie Viola?s home Sunday night. Leonard Cardillo, who lives three blocks away, was driving by when he saw the flames, jumped out of the car and started banging on the door.
Driscoll and Viola say they had no idea the house was on fire until they heard Cardillo outside. The couple invited Cardillo over to the home Tuesday to offer thanks. Cardillo maintains he is not a hero, just a regular person.
The couple says they are grateful because they could have lost a lot more in the fire.
