Recent brawl at Palisades Center sparks call for teen curfew

A violent brawl last weekend at the Palisades Center has sparked calls for a curfew at the popular mall. The incident is just the latest problem involving teens roaming the mall on weekend nights unsupervised. Clarkstown Councilwoman Shirley Laskur is sponsoring a resolution urging the Palisades Center to require a parental escort for anyone under 18 on Fridays and Saturdays from 4 p.m. to closing. State Police Captain Stephen Nevins says before a similar policy was implemented at the Galleria at Crystal Run, patrols were regularly called to the mall on Friday and Saturday nights. There were often arrests for drug possession, disorderly conduct and even possession of knives and clubs. Nevins says not as many arrests have been required since the curfew began. If the Clarkstown Town Board passes the resolution recommending a teen curfew, it's still up to mall officials whether or not they implement it.
