Power utilities in the hot seat over outages during wind storms in Hudson Valley
County lawmakers grilled Con Ed and NYSEG Monday about the time it took to restore power to residents during wild storms two weeks ago.
More than 80,000 people lost power after 70 mile per hour winds knocked down power lines and trees across Westchester and Hudson Valley. Some residents were without power for more than a week. Both Con Ed and NYSEG officials say they did all they could to fix the problems by bringing in extra crews and working around the clock.
But Legislator Tom Abinanti (D-District 12) claims the utilities weren't prepared to respond to such a great emergency need. He wants to know what the companies learned during the experience and what they plan on doing next time.
Residents along with municipal officials attended the meeting. One of the biggest complains was the lack of honest communication between customers and local officials. Municipal officials also demanded changes be made.
