Financial boost for Orange County Community College
A financial boost could be on the way for the new Orange County Community College campus in Newburgh.
Governor George Pataki (R-NY) made a special visit to Newburgh to announce the city will receive an extra $15 million in state funding towards expansion of the SUNY campus, bringing the total state support to $30 million. Planners estimate the cost of building and opening the campus could cost almost $100 million. But with the proposed state funding and the help of one local businessman who donated $10 million of his own money, the Orange County Legislature is left to commit the additional $30 to $60 million.
Pataki believes the expansion will give Newburgh an educational revitalization as well as an economical expansion. The projected enrollment is approximately 1,100 students, which is double those currently enrolled.
