NYS Thruway Authority slapped with sexual harassment suit
The first female welder to work on the Tappan Zee Bridge claims her boss sexually harassed her for years.
Julie Bastile says from her first month on the job her boss, Walter Spagnola, a long-time Thruway veteran, singled her out and started sexually harassing her. Bastile claims some of the harassment was in the form of obscene calls to her home and explicit talk directed at her during work. Bastile reported Spagnola to three other supervisors who she says did nothing.
Bastile hired an attorney who has filed a lawsuit against the New York State Thruway Authority. In the suit, Bastile is seeking both compensatory and punitive damages. A spokesperson for the Thruway Authority says they are sending the papers to the NY Attorney General?s office for review and will also review them internally.
