New contract may be in the works for transit workers

A new contract may be on the way for the thousands of bus and subway workers in the Hudson Valley and throughout New York City.
Leaders from the Transport Workers Union have scheduled a meeting for Tuesday and are going to hear about a tentative new contract with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Transit workers staged New York?s first transit strike in more than 25 years last week. Retirement and pensions were the sticking points that prompted union members to walk off the job. However, after a state mediator intervened the decision was made to go back to work and to the bargaining table.Representatives for the MTA and the union won't discuss the negotiations, which have been going on under a media blackout since members went back to work last Friday.Related Article:
