Metro-North union leaders announced Monday that they will honor a picket line if the Transport Workers Union (TWU) goes on strike.

If no deal can be reached by transit workers and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) a walkout is scheduled for 12:01 Tuesday morning. The show of solidarity by the union leaders representing 70 percent of Metro-North?s work force, could affect thousands of commuters in the Hudson Valley who use Metro-North?s trains. Union workers for two private bus lines in Queens were the first to walk off the job Monday morning.

Union leaders say that while they hope for a fair resolution, they want to be sure that MTA leaders know they are willing to take the strike to a much larger scale. If the transit workers strike, more than 7 million commuters city wide would be without a ride.Related Link:
