With the possibility of a transit strike looming, commuters in the Hudson Valley could be carpooling Friday.
The MTA and its 33,000 transit workers are still trying to negotiate a contract. Some issues on the table include wages, pensions and contributions to health insurance. While it is common for collective bargaining to go down to the wire, commuters must be prepared for a worst-case scenario of excess traffic, carpooling and no subways or buses in Manhattan.
Westchester County Executive Andy Spano is encouraging Hudson Valley commuters to think about carpooling at one of seven temporary park and ride lots that the county will open if the strike takes place. Similar park and rides will also be available in Rockland and Orange counties.Related Story:
