There may finally be some progress made on deciding the future of the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The state Department of Transportation is taking over the project after the thruway authority and other agencies missed repeated deadlines. Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef says the DOT has the broadest view of what?s best for the bridge and commuters on both sides of the river, and that should speed up this process.
The Tappan Zee Bridge carries more than 135,000 cars and trucks a day. The life expectancy of the bridge is 50 years. The bridge turns 50 in December.Related Links:NYS Thruway Authority Traveler?s Information Tappan Zee Bridge Environmental ReviewTappan Zee Bridge Historic Overview
