County report says lapses at Rye Playland did not contribute to boy's death
The Westchester County Department of Public Safety released its report into the death of a 7-year-old boy at Rye Playland.
The report found that the workers on Ye Old Mill ride were not properly trained, the ride was short-staffed and a morning safety check was not conducted. It also say three of the four workers were not trained in shutting down the ride. However, the report concludes that none of those factors contributed to the death of Jon-Kely Cassara, of Connecticut.
The report shows Cassara did not drown but died of blunt head trauma, which was accidental. Authorities say the boy left the boat and fell. He was found about 40 minutes later.
Cassara?s lawyer criticized the county report as self-serving and says the family will file a lawsuit.
