Major shakeup on the ballot for Rockland County clerk

Posted: Updated:

Two new candidates have entered the race for Rockland County clerk one week before Election Day.

Ann O'Sullivan, of Stony Point, is running on the Republican ticket and Paul Piperato is running on the on the Democratic and Conservative ticket. Piperato has been the deputy county clerk for the past 16 years. O'Sullivan has been serving in government for 20 years. She was on the Stony Point town board, Rockland County legislature and currently serves as the director of Governor Pataki's office in New York City. Their late nominations come after the sudden death of longtime County Clerk Ed Gorman.

Even though the two candidates have been nominated by three of the four parties, that still doesn't mean the board of elections can go ahead and re-print thousands of new ballots. They're still waiting on the Working Families Party to nominate a candidate.
