Rockland politicians meet to designate new county clerk candidate

With Election Day just one week away Rockland Democrats and Republicans met separately Monday to try to designate replacement candidates after the sudden death of longtime County Clerk Ed Gorman.Gorman was running unopposed in this upcoming election but now political parties are scrambling to find a candidate and the board of elections has to start all over again. Paper, affidavit, sample and absentee balots all need to be reprinted, costing the county another $30,000. A new candidate must appear on each of the four lines Gorman was running under. According to the bi-laws, the parties have until November 4 to submit a candidate but the board of elections is asking everyone to be aware of the tight deadline. They are requesting those submissions be made no later than Tuesday November 1.Related Stories:
