Federal inspectors probe recent problems at Indian Point

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is keeping a closer eye on the Indian Point Power Plant after recent problems plagued the plant.
The chairman of the NRC has called for more scrutiny of the power plants so federal inspectors will be sent to monitor the facility. This comes on the heels of last week?s leak of radioactive water from a pool where fuel rods are stored. Five wells at Indian Point had low levels of a radioactive substance called tritium. Entergy, the company that runs the plant, says the leak doesn't pose any threat to the public.
Also, during a recent test of the emergency sirens, several failed in Orange County. The NRC will hold a public meeting to discuss Indian Point's siren system on November 11.
