Police in Rockland educate the public on gang activity
For the past 10 years, the Rockland County Intelligence Center has been investigating gang activity in the county. They believe the best way to combat gang violence is to educate the public.
Investigators say one sign to detect whether there are gangs in the neighborhood is graffiti. Another sign is that gangs wear only certain colors. Gang unit members also warn parents to be aware if children come home with a different nickname, which is another symbol of gang activity.
Experts say it is important to educate children on the dangers of gangs since many times they fall prey to gang recruitment.
