Officials in Rockland are warning residents to beware of bears.Officials say on Monday afternoon a black bear was spotted at Nyack Middle School. There have also been sightings in Pearl River and Tappan.

Rockland authorities warn residents to beware of bears
Officials in Rockland are warning residents to beware of bears.Officials say on Monday afternoon a black bear was spotted at Nyack Middle School. There have also been sightings in Pearl River and Tappan. Orangetown police have been involved in tracking the bear or bears, but according to the Department of Environmental Conservation, police no longer take bears away. However, police are allowed to shoot a bear if a person is in danger.Police advise residents to keep trash barrels locked up inside until the day of pickup and take down bird feeders. Police say the seeds that people put out to attract birds is also very attractive to bears.
