Rockland officials work to improve commute to ManhattanPosted: Updated:
At a transportation summit Friday in New City, Rockland officials not only discussed the Tappan Zee Bridge but also urged experts to find ways to make the commute to Manhattan better.
The state has come up with six options for the Tappan Zee Bridge. Rockland officials are vowing to stay involved with its future. However, many believe the key to solving commuter woes is coming up with a better public transportation system into New York City.
In some areas of the county, it is only about 15 miles to the city, but it usually takes an hour and a half on public transportation. Officials say they want to be involved in any plans made by the New York Department of Transportation.
