Family of boy killed at Rye Playland files suit against park, county
The family of the boy who died on a ride at Rye Playland plans to file a lawsuit against the park and Westchester County.
The family of Jon-Kely Cassara says the lawsuit charges the park and the county with negligence, carelessness and wrongful death. Cassara, 7, died of blunt trauma to the head in August after being trapped under a conveyor belt underwater on the Ye Olde Mill, a boat-in-the-dark amusement ride.
In a statement, the family says the boy should not have been allowed on the ride alone. The family also feels the ride should have had seatbelts and better supervision. A spokeswoman for Westchester County says state officials concluded there was no negligence on the county's part.
