Fourth annual softball tournament held in memory of Monroe native
The Orange County softball league held a tournament in memory of Tommy Dowd, one of 44 people in the county killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
This is the fourth year Dowd's former teammates and friends have 'played ball' in his honor. They say sports were Dowd's passion so there was no better tribute to him then to get out on the field for a softball game.
All the proceeds from the tournament will go to a scholarship in Dowd's name that will help Monroe High School students pay for college.
There were several other ceremonies throughout Hudson Valley this past weekend to mark the fourth anniversary of September 11. Seventy-one people in Rockland County lost their lives, including one Hillcrest firefighter.
