Firefighters battle tough blaze at Orangeburg plastics factory
Seven Rockland County fire companies faced a tough task Friday putting out a fire at Aluf Plastics. The blaze gave off so much black toxic smoke it could be seen all the way from Newark Airport. The fire started around 3p.m. inside the factory and spread quickly. All employees managed to escape safely, but some required medical attention at the scene. The Orangeburg Fire Department credits pre-planning its their part regarding what was inside the factory as to how it knew how to go about putting it out.So far it is believed that a machine in the factory jammed and then overheated, causing the fire. The investigation continues.
