When Love Hurts- Part II
Domestic Violence is a problem that affects people from every religious, ethnic and economic background. In Part II of the special series ?When Love Hurts,? News 12 Westchester takes a look at how people are working to stop domestic violence in Westchester.
Last September, Michelle Bonner was shot dead by her estranged husband in front of their three children at their Mamaroneck home. He also shot her sister and then turned the gun on himself. The Bonner children were spared, but not everyone is that lucky.
This upcoming Labor Day will mark the 5th anniversary since Patricia Torres was stabbed to death by her boyfriend, Dennis Alvarez, in their Yonkers apartment. He also killed two of Torres? children. Alvarez was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to 115 years behind bars.
Since that tragedy, the Yonkers Police Department formed a new domestic violence unit, made up of officers who follow up on all domestic violence complaints.
