Orange County police officer critically injured in crash released from hospital

Posted: Updated:

A Chester police officer was released from a Valhalla hospital Wednesday after being critically injured in a crash.

Officer Robert Ferrara endured several surgeries to heal injuries that resulted from a collision during a high-speed chase in July. Police say an SUV driven by 21-year-old Daniel Mooney crashed into Ferrara?s cruiser head on. Ferrara was so seriously injured by the accident he spent about a week in a chemically-induced coma.

Ferrara thanked the doctors he credited with saving his life as he left the Westchester Medical Center. Ferrara will now go to the Helen Hayes Hospital in West Haverstraw to begin his rehabilitation.
