Cameras keep an eye out for crime in Haverstraw

Ten surveillance cameras strategically placed throughout the village of Haverstraw have led to over 1,200 arrests, according to police.
The cameras, which have been in operation since 1998, are monitored 24 hours a day. Police say the accelerated speed with which officers can be dispatched has significantly reduced crime in the area.
The cameras have been so successful that neighboring communities are considering the installation of similar systems.
