Westchester DA Jeanine Pirro off and running
Westchester District Attorney Jeanine Pirro officially announced her bid for the U.S. Senate, and will now be seeking the Republican nomination.
The Republican DA made the announcement Wednesday at a Manhattan hotel. Pirro embarks on a three-day statewide tour beginning with a trip to the state Capitol in Albany, and then to Buffalo?s Niagara Square for a news conference.
Pirro says she'll run on her record and the issues, promising she will be a full-time representative in the Senate. She made mention of Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton?s presidential aspirations. Pirro says if Clinton wants to be president, she should be honest with herself and her constituents and just say so.
The other Republicans that have thrown their hat into the ring for the Senate are former Yonkers Mayor John Spencer, Ed Cox, son-in-law of the late President Richard Nixon, and William Brenner, an attorney from Sullivan County.
Pirro backs President George Bush's tax cuts, but also made it clear she can break with the party line by supporting stem cell research. To find out more about her position on other issues click here.
