Three New Hempstead teens arrested for a string of synagogue thefts in Rockland

Police have arrested three New Hempstead teens for a string of synagogue thefts in Rockland County.

According to authorities, the trio broke into two temples in Monsey on Maple Terrance on Thursday and stole an undetermined amount of cash from the charity boxes. Police say high-tech surveillance cameras led to the arrests 17-year-old Joshua Zelcer, his older brother, 18-year-old Aaron Zelcer and 18-year-old Uriel Zelcer, who is not related to the two but has the same last name.

As a general rule, synagogues do not lock their doors on weekends so people can come and worship. Police believe the teenagers may be connected to at least 10 other similar incidents dating back to March.
