The Chester police officer injured in a high-speed chase last week has a long road to recovery.

Police say Officer Robert Ferrara?s life nearly ended when 21-year-old Daniel Mooney, also known as Daniel Garcia, plowed his SUV head on into Ferrara?s patrol car. According to authorities, Mooney led police on a high-speed chase before the accident.

Ferrara has been kept heavily sedated because of the pain he?s expected to endure. Officials say Ferrara has broken wrists, femurs, ribs and collarbones. Doctors plan to bring him back to consciousness Thursday to remove his feeding tube. Ferrara faces months in a wheelchair and several surgeries.

The PBA has organized a blood drive to be held in honor of Ferrara. It is scheduled for August 3 at the Sugar Loaf Engine Company on Route 13A in Sugar Loaf.
