West Nyack mall evacuated after two suspicious packages discovered

Thousands of shoppers were evacuated from a West Nyack mall after two suspicious packages were discovered Wednesday.
Mall security evacuated the Palisades Center after a package was found near the food court on the third floor. Soon after, another suspicious package was found on the roof of the mall. Rockland County and state emergency officials converged on the scene to investigate, forcing an exit ramp near the mall to be closed to traffic.
The bomb squad performed a controlled detonation of the first package, which police believed was an explosive device. Authorities say the package turned out to be a fake bomb, and the second package ended up being an empty box. Officials say the incident warranted an evacuation and an investigation by Rockland and state agencies.
