There is a dispute between county officials and Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant owner, Entergy, over the test results of emergency sirens.

Officials in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties believe a total of 17 sirens failed tests conducted Wednesday. Entergy officials say their analysis shows all but one in Putnam County worked properly.

The problem may be with the sensors, which show if the sirens are working. According to Entergy, most sensor problems are caused by birds nesting in the mechanism measuring rotation. In some cases the wires from the sensors have been chewed by birds and other animals. Therefore, if the data isn?t received the monitoring computers show it failed.

Westchester officials are willing to meet with Entergy to work out the dispute.
