New report surfaces saying Haverstraw mayor was asleep at the wheel

A new report released by the police states that the mayor of Haverstraw was actually asleep at the wheel in addition to having alcohol in his system.

Village police officers arrested Mayor Francis Wassmer early Sunday morning after receiving a tip about a man sleeping in a van with the motor running. According to the police report, Wassmer was not given a Breathalyzer until two hours later at Stony Point Police Headquarters. The mayor?s blood alcohol level was listed as .06, just below the .08 limit for drunk driving.

Wassmer was charged with driving while ability impaired (DWAI) and is due back in court next month.
