Greenwood Lakes residents discussing school district expansion
? Voters in Greenwood Lake are deciding whether to build a new high school. The district expansion would add to their current school system, which already has a middle school and an elementary school.
Some say it might be very expensive, but others feel the money they spend sending their kids to neighboring Tuxedo School District can be used to build the high school. According to school officials, residents spend more than $12,000 a year per student busing kids to George F. Baker High School. That is $5.5 million a year, but it would cost $25 million to build the school.
Superintendent Paul Guaracino wants voters to give the school district its first high school, which would also give them voting power. At this point they don?t have any voting rights because the school their kids attend in another district.
