Conflict prevents public defenders from working on New City murder case

The Rockland County Public Defender?s Office says they have a conflict of interest defending a man accused of the brutal murder of a New City woman.
Ronald Douglas Herrera Castellanos is charged with killing 42-year-old Mary Nagle in her home on April 29. Castellanos was hired to pressure wash the Nagle?s house. The public defenders say they have a conflict representing Castellanos because they know key witnesses.
Defense attorney Barry Weiss, who is not a member of the public defender?s office, was assigned to the case. Weiss is requesting the former assistant district attorney as co-counsel since he speaks Spanish. However, the Rockland County district attorney disagrees with the appointment of a co-counsel and the judge in the case has ordered a petition on the matter.
